Great British Bake Off inspiring home bakers
With TV programmes like the BBC’s Great British Bake Off firmly reigniting the nation’s love affair with baking, we thought we’d share some tips and recipes for healthier, yet still delicious, bakes – so you can enjoy them all the more!
Baking with oats
We should try and eat whole grain every day, so adding whole grains such as oats to your baking recipes is a convenient and enjoyable way to do this.
Oats are beneficial for health so can add a nutritious boost to baking – and they’re a really useful ingredient, as they add both texture and flavour.
Use a mix of jumbo and rolled oats to make biscuits, oatcakes, cereal bars or flapjacks. Or swap in some oat flour to your bread, cake, pancake or muffin recipes for great texture and flavour.
Add interest to your bakes with whole grains
There are many different whole grains available to add variety to your baking – from wholewheat flour to whole spelt. There’s so much choice!
To get started, try 50/50 by swapping half the white flour in your baking recipes with oat or wholewheat flour.
