How much whole grain should children eat?
For adults, the recommendation for fibre is 30g per day. There isn’t a rule for children as such, but they (especially young children) need much less fibre than adults as too much fibre can provide too much ‘bulk’ to their diet. Young children who have high energy needs but small appetites can soon be filled up on high fibre foods – so giving a mixture of white and wholemeal is best. Teenagers would be expected to eat closer to the 30g per day recommended for adults.
